Based in idyllic Newburyport, Massachusetts, we offer both interior design and architectural services with a focus on historic home renovation, additions, interior remodel and design. We believe the creative process is a collaboration, and partner with each of our clients to build a curated design unique to their home and lifestyle. Whether it’s a quintessentially classic look or bespoke vintage modern, our focus is creating a comfortable yet beautiful environment that stands the test of time.
Situated in colonial mill building, our studio is a hub of design, art, and collaboration here in historic Newburyport. Part office, part inspiration—the space gives you a taste of our aesthetic, from wallpaper and paint color to fabric and art.
We believe that the perfect home is a curation of old and new, found and collected items living comfortably with clean modern design and bespoke charm. We seek to create informal beauty and comfort with a focus on functional detail and character.
While living in Boston, Emily worked at the Museum of Fine Arts as an art educator and program manager. She has taught studio art classes to people of all ages and backgrounds and holds a core belief that art is for everyone. At KSD she loves reminding clients that art of any medium is essential in one's home, and that one can always find an approachable piece that can work within a space.
Emily has a unique perspective on how art can actually affect a person’s wellbeing from her experience teaching art workshops at world-renowned hospitals such as Dana Farber, Boston Children’s Hospital, and MGH. She has seen first-hand how art has the power to calm, inspire, ignite conversation, and tell meaningful stories.
Her aesthetic leans modern, abstract, often colorful and geometric. She loves when art is conceptual and tells a story. Blending styles to compliment and elevate home interiors is an ongoing obsession. Emily can be found frequenting galleries, museums, and finding new and up and coming artists throughout New England for our gallery next door.
Kate Daskalakis is a resident of Plum Island, Newburyport’s hidden gem. Kate has a quiet confidence that is desirable when handing over trust for home renovation or redesign. Her style boasts natural elements of design, and is inspired by art, travel, and a respect for historic and classical structures.
She loves blending old with new and has a knack for antique sourcing. Kate’s hope is that each client feels confident in their own personal design style. Kate’s approach is collaborative, meeting clients where they feel best in their design process.
Kate’s design experience is vast, having worked with clients all over New England as well with other design professionals to bring an ease to home renovations. Her process is wholistic from the beginning stages of collaborating with architectures and builders to the very last detail of textile selection and artwork placement.
Merinda brings managerial strength to KSD with over 18 years of experience across the publishing, media and communications world. She has a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Communications and was the Production Director at the Improper Bostonian Magazine for 15 years coordinating editorial, design and advertising for the bi-weekly publication.
With a passion for design and a keen attention to detail, she thrives behind the scenes making sure every project runs as smooth and seamless as possible. Born and raised in Andover, Massachusetts, she’s lived in Boston, San Francisco and Los Angeles. She now calls Newburyport home, where she lives with her husband and two (very) energetic boys. A lover of all things epicurean and a talented sourdough baker, Merinda helps to keep a rhythm in the studio that is impervious to the inevitable ups and down of a project.
Tiffany received her design education from Parsons School of Design and for the last 15 years has been working with clients across the country designing spaces full of character and functionality. She loves to design a floor plan that is seamlessly functional to the personal needs of each client and then filling it with the character and details that make it truly feel like home.
Historic interior architecture is her passion and it is fueled by her extensive travels throughout the world; whether it’s the cottages of the Cotswolds, the Medici gardens and palaces of Florence, or the brownstones of Boston’s Back Bay. The details she sees in her travels very often inspire the character that she weaves into clients spaces.
Every project begins with a personal consultation where we learn more about your design goals, personal style and taste, assess your needs and define your project scope. We look forward to working together.
